YOU'LL STAY

The studio is an incredible place to be inspired. However it is very humbling. I've really been trying to find my voice… I can sing technically correct most of the time (find the power and notes in my diaphragm and lower abs, relaxing my throat, and pronouncing words at the front of my mouth with my tongue and teeth), but the real challenge is finding the most exciting emotion in the right range.

The reason I'm rambling on about this is because I'm very nervous/excited. I've finally taken a personal song/baby into the studio and tweaked and tweaked it to my hearts/ears desire and now can see the finish line! It's a song written by Parish Phantom called "You'll Stay."

The original idea was conceived by Parker one night before a show, just in case we needed to fill some time (which we did). I had the lyrical ideas flowing out of me instantly but had yet to finish them before the show.

It was such a wonderful moment to be playing a brand new song in front of an eager crowd but not knowing the rest of the lyrics gave me butterflies in my stomach. The crowd was dancing and right in front of me was the love I was singing about. I just stared her right in the eyes, and the rest came out… I remember smiling and thinking, "Hope I can remember this." Fortunately, I did:

Come a little bit closer, babe
I want to feel you whispering in my ear
Say, you'll stay
Say, say, say you will stay
All you need to do is breathe
Darling let your hair down, disappear
But stay with me
I wanna be as close as I can
Even though we don’t know
There's no harm in taking it slow
We’ll eventually figure it out
Life gets harder when you look down
Do not run just cause you are afraid
And out of control oh
Oh just stay
And yes, yes I, too, will stay
You gotta keep your head up high
It feels no good to feel so sorry
I'll show you the wayJust stay, just stay

The song was recorded at The Dizzy Records, co-mixed by yours truly and Adam Carrillo and was also mastered by Adam Carrillo.

Go ahead, give it a listen.

EDIT: Since posting this originally, quite a few changes have occured. For one, Katy and I are no longer together (a mutual decision for the best). Also, I have "leveled up" in both singing and recording skills and realize that this representation of the song is sort of shitty for lack of a better word. Regardless, I still wanted to share the story and the song can still be heard as it is, but expect greater things to come from this as I do.
